What is counseling?

Any life, no matter how well-balanced and meaningful, can quickly become difficult — at times more than we can manage. The loss of a loved one or a serious relationship, financial difficulties, illness — can be so overwhelming that they can lead to deeper problems. Life trials like these can often be effectively treated by a Problem-solving, Solution-focused approach. This is usually more effective than a lengthy, open-ended treatment. The therapist’s role in counseling is to help identify the problem at hand, to offer relief from the emotional pain you may be trying to handle alone, and to offer coping strategies in case the problem recurs.
